Nahum 1-3

Friday

Like Jonah a century before, Nahum prophesizes the destruction of Nineveh at the hand of God.
This book speaks out against an oppressive nation, one that easily inflicts pain and suffering on others. In this message from Nahum, God stands against the oppressors and the unjust.

As we look at our nation we need to ask ourselves would God consider us a “Nineveh”? Will He judge us harshly because we are not reaching out to those around us? Are we forgetting our obligations to care for the poor, the homeless, the oppressed?  We seem to be battling against ourselves and against the world. Our Nation is no longer looked upon with favor (if we ever were). But I do know that when there is a disaster in the world, the US is one of the first to respond. So maybe there is hope yet for us.  And maybe we won’t end up like Nineveh. Because in the end, Nineveh falls and it isn’t until the middle of the 19th
Century before it is “unearthed”. That’s a long time to be wiped off the face of the earth.

I pray that our country will humble itself and turn it’s face to God. I pray that we will make this nation once again – truly a nation under God.

Shalom
