Micah 1-7

Friday

We have heard so far from a few of the “minor prophets”. Now I want to clarify something about that title.

These guys are not minor in the sense that they are lesser prophets then the ones known as “major prophets” (ie, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel) but truly it is because their books are shorter and their messages are more focused. They are by no means less inspired than the major prophets, it is just that God choose to reveal more to the major prophets. So who is Micah and what is his message? Micah lived about 20 miles southwest of Jerusalem. He lived in the time right before the exile and he was chosen by God to share God’s word about justice and peace. One of the great sins of Israel during this time was the unjust treatment of the poor. Chapter 2 tells us they “plotted evil”, they coveted what others had, they cheated a man out of his inheritance. They were dishonest, and there was a lot of corruption and murder and taking of bribes… the list is quite extensive. Micah calls them to listen, he wanted the people to know that God’s judgment was coming and that God is also providing redemption, if you will humble yourself and repent of your sins.

“He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (6:8)

We have the instructions, the tools and the gifts to save us – we just need to accept them and use them.

Shalom

Pastor Kathy
