Matthew 15

Friday

So today is a pretty important day in the life of the United States. Once again we have a new president being sworn into office. My prayer today, is for him and for our country and its leaders, may we all remember to look to Jesus first and follow Him.

So I was wondering today, if the Pharisees ever got tired of trying to find fault with Jesus? I mean, did they really believe they could “out think” Jesus? They are trying to accuse Jesus of sinning or disobeying the law, but he ends up telling them that what people see on the outside is not important – what is really important is what is going on inside a person’s heart.

I have been around many “clean cut” Christians who looked good to other people, but when they were home they were not nice people. They would say all the right things when they thought important people were listening, but in their hearts there was no truth. What we see on the outside may be far different than what God sees on the inside.

The truth is that your actions will speak louder than your words. Jesus says in Matthew 7:22-23 “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”

The Pharisees know all about God, but they didn’t KNOW God.

Jesus wants the disciples and us to know that when our hearts are pure, when we truly seek to do God’s will, that is the important command to follow. When we are on the right path, we know it, when we are straying, we will know that too.

Again Jesus feeds a large crowd of people. Ever wonder why Matthew includes these in his Gospel? Remember how God took care of the Israelites wandering in the desert? He sent them “bread from heaven”, manna. Jesus is our bread – the Bread of Life. So when we are wandering around here and we need fed, which we do every day, look to the Bread of Life.

Shalom
