Luke 12

       If there was ever Boogeyman3
       something to be
       afraid of…this is it.
Jesus tells us not to be afraid of the very things most of us are afraid of.  For instance, people who are trying to harm us.  Who hasn’t been afraid that someone is hiding out there somewhere, wanting to harm you?   But Jesus is saying:
“look at this from my perspective, your body is temporary anyway.
Whether it is killed or dies of natural causes, it really doesn’t affect the outcome at all…
you still end up in front of my Judgment seat.
What happens then is what you need to be afraid of”
So what happens at the judgment seat?   Simple.  God decides who is going into heaven and who is going into hell.  Jesus says “everything covered will be revealed, and what you said in the dark will be brought into the light” reading that, you might think that God is going to weigh all the good things you said and did against all the bad.   Whichever one is greater would determine your fate.   You might think that, but you would be wrong.   Two reasons for my position: 1.  Every single one of us has done more wrong than right.   We were all born into sin, denying Christ.  Some of us lived many years before we ever repaired our relationship with Jesus.  2.  Christ died for our forgiveness, which means whatever I do that’s good isn’t going to get me into heaven.  If it could, then Jesus wouldn’t have died for my sins.   Since He did, I can stop trying to “earn my way”.      So why will everything be uncovered?   I’m not sure, but I know that when it is the Christians will become even more thankful and filled with joy, knowing what they have been forgiven of.   And those who are not forgiven will become either angry, vengeful or filled with fear.   Whatever they feel, it won’t be good.    That’s why we should “be afraid” now.  The fear Jesus is talking about can be translated as “reverence” or “sacred respect”.

There are several sentences here that you should really meditate on.
1.  Whoever blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.    I think that means if you take credit away from God for what God has done.   Be careful not to quickly dismiss what the Spirit of God could be doing.   At the same time, I think we could also err if we gave credit to the Holy Spirit for something that He isn’t involved in.     If your position produces the Fruit of the Spirit, or brings glory to God it’s probably safe.   If it takes glory away from God, it might be dangerous.   Now let me ask you this:   What’s your position on creation?   What’s your position on abortion?     You see what I mean?   Be careful.

2.  Don’t worry about how to defend yourself or what to say, the Holy Spirit will teach you.     Okay, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t prepare in advance, but that’s all you should do.   Prepare, and don’t worry.   God has your back.

3.   Don’t be greedy.   If it weren’t for greed, everyone in the world would have enough to eat.  There would be enough clean drinking water, and there wouldn’t be any war.   Greed is a powerful negative desire.  Nothing good comes from it, and we should avoid “waking it up” in our lives at all costs.   This is why we need to avoid lotteries.  The lottery appeals to greed, and greed is the “root of all evil”.   Kill greed and you kill sin at it’s root.

4.   God rewards the servants who are ready, and He comes when least expected.   If you are slacking off when Christ returns, you put your eternal destiny in jeopardy.  Renew your efforts, double down on developing and maintaining your relationship with Jesus.  Serve others every chance you get, and pray constantly to reflect the fruit of the Spirit in your life.    By doing these things we keep our lamp brightly lit, and encourage others to do the same.

Loving the Lord because of His great love for me,
