Leviticus 11 – 13

February 16, 2016 (Tuesday)

Do you remember your mom (or maybe Grandmother) ever saying… cleanliness is next to godliness? It seems like we like to be clean. We just had a “kitchen inspection” here at the church and those things are all about cleanliness and providing sanitary conditions. Doctors and nurses learned decades

ago that keeping the hospitals clean led to fewer deaths. So there is something to say about “clean”. I know that I like living in a clean “space”.

In our reading today it would seem that a holy, perfectly clean God hates uncleanness. So that’s why there are so many rules and regulations regarding how people should purify themselves before they enter into the presence of God. This was God’s chosen people and He wanted them to learn in very minute details how to obey Him.

Now all this ritual cleaning seems foreign to us today. We are no longer required to follow the detailed uncleanness rules. Why is that? It’s not because we learned how to clean ourselves up. No not at all. It is because of the work of Jesus Christ. He is the only reason we can come into the presence of God – because Jesus provided not only forgiveness of our sins, but he also provided the “clean” way for us. He washed us “white as snow.”

Blessings for the day
