Isaiah 40-43

Wednesday                                       Prepare the way for the Lord.” Isaiah says this as well as John the Baptist in Matthew 3:3.
Christ is coming. The previous period of judgment, caused by our sin is over, God has now come to save us. Isaiah tells the Hebrews that God has not abandoned them, He still loves them and has made a way for salvation to come to them.

So, how do you prepare the way for the Lord in your life? How would you prepare your house for a guest to arrive? Would you clean out the dirt, pick up the clutter? How about making a path into the woods? Would you clean up the brush, fill in the holes, cut down the high places? In our lives there are many obstacles that block the way for us to allow Jesus to have total access to our lives. We surround ourselves with distractions that keep us from focusing on Him. We fill our lives with desires for the wrong things, desires that push Jesus farther away. We allow sin to invade our homes and our schools and our nation. The pathway is not “straight”. We need to examine our lives and repent. If we want to live in eternity with God, and to not be “like grass that withers and the flowers that fall” we need to turn our lives over to God, to believe that Jesus is who he says he is. We need to continue to read and follow God’s word, for “the word of our God stands forever.”

The word of God – constantly reminds us of the desires of the Lord. What He requires of us. We need to only respond and make sure that our focus is on Jesus, that He gets first place in our lives. “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth….. but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint “ (40:28a, 31)

The Israelites had to go through the exile as the punishment they disserved, but God was never far from them, and continued to make a path for His chosen people. God will never leave us if we turn our lives over to Him.

Shalom
