Ezekiel 46-48

Tuesday

Ezekiel finishes with a very powerful message. “And from that day the name of the city will be ‘The Lord Is There.’”

I love that thought. The Lord is There. To be in the presence of the Lord for all of eternity. I can’t imagine a better place to be.
In these final chapters of Ezekiel, we find him telling us about the rest of his vision. We’ve moved from the inside of the Temple compound to the eastern gate and a listing of the sacrifices are given. The guide takes Ezekiel outside and shows him a river that flows from under the south wall of the Temple, then disappears from sight, then reappears from underneath the south wall. Water was such a blessing to this desert wasteland. And this water will even make the Dead Sea fresh and pure.  Water brings life, it brings healing to a dying land. Water symbolizes new life for God’s people through God’s saving grace. We read of how the land will be divided up, but I think the important thing to remember is that God is There. This same message is reported also by John in Revelation 22:3,

“For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there…” God will always “be there” for us. He always has and always will exist. And with Him flows the life giving waters. Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:13-14)
