Exodus 7 – 9

February 1, 2016 (Monday)

And so the battle begins. God vs Pharaoh. Whose side do you want to be on? Did you notice at first that the Egyptian magicians were able to mimic the miraculous sign and even some of the plagues? That’s because Satan has the power to mimic what God can do, but only up to a certain point, his power to deceive has limits.

I cannot believe that Pharaoh is so deceived by his power that every time a plague is presented he gets – “oh woe is me” and begs Moses to put a stop to it, then right away as soon as it is gone… he changes his mind. I wonder if there have been times when we use God like that? I’ll follow Him as long as He does what I want Him to, or we turn to Him only when we are faced with troubles or trials, but as soon as things get better, I no longer have time for Him. Hummm?

So the plagues begin. I don’t know if you are aware of the significance behind the plagues, but each one is an attack on one of the Egyptian gods or goddesses. So God is showing the Egyptians and Pharaoh who is more powerful.

I read an interesting article on-line about the significance behind the plague of lice. (3

rd

plague according to NKJV). Apparently the Egyptian priests could not enter their temples if they had lice on them. So they had to bathe four times a day in ice cold water and they shaved their bodies. So when they were covered by the plague of lice, they couldn’t even go into their temples to pray to their gods for help. This is also the first plague the magicians couldn’t duplicate. Don’t you just love it.

It is going to take a bit more to finally get Pharaoh to really let the people go, because God wants them not to just leave, but  to leave with everything. But more on that later.

Blessings on the day!
