Ecclesiastes 7-12

Tuesday

Well, as promised I think today’s reading was a bit more uplifting, because the message is clear. Found in 12:13, Solomon concludes that we should “Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”

Good things and bad things happen to both the righteous and the unrighteous.

“The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.” (9:11 NIV) Life happens to all of us in many ways. Good things happen, evil things happen. The difference is how we handle them. For the righteous, we have the Holy Spirit to help carry us through the difficulties of life and we also know that our reward awaits us in the afterlife. Eternity spent with Jesus.

Solomon tells us that we should enjoy life, for it does pass quickly. We also learn that we should be searching for our purpose and for the meaning of our life but to know that they are found only in knowing Jesus.

So the good news of this book our understanding that the only thing that has real meaning in this life is found in knowing our Lord.

Blessings!
