Deuteronomy 28 – 29

(Saturday)

Well, in the reading today a very straight forward choice is given. Be obedient to God, follow the law, put God first and the rewards and blessings will be abundant; choose differently, and God will withhold His blessings and instead put His curse on you. Wow.
Doesn’t seem like too difficult of a choice to make, yet for some reason we humans never seem to get it. As a nation I wonder what is going to happen to our country because we are turning our back on God, just as the Israelites did. Will we see the destruction, the suffering, hunger and plagues? Will we be able to save ourselves in the time of trial? Will the “sights we see, drive us mad”(28:35), in other words, make us go crazy? God is a God of justice – He does what He says He will do.

The choice is simple; obey God, serve only Him. The truth for us unfortunately is not so simple; “
the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak
(Mark 14:38).” Tragically, this curse is experienced during the exile by later generations of Israelites who refused to obey God. Will we be witnesses of a similar event?
Will we turn our backs on God? Or stay obedient to Him. We know we cannot do this on our own, we need to have the power of the Holy Spirit in us to help us be obedient… to be faithful. Call upon Him and God will answer our prayers.

Blessings on the day!
