Well, it got a little scary moving the Ark of the Covenant, maybe a little too scary for David and so he leaves it with Obed-Edom the Gittite. Funny how when Obed-Edom was being blessed by the Ark that David decides to bring it to Jerusalem. So what happened to make carrying the Ark different the second time?

So David has established his kingdom in Jerusalem. What dangers lie ahead for David?

In Psalm 107 there are two refrains which are repeated throughout. “They cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered (saved) them from their distress” and “let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wonderful works to humankind.” Read more…

Well, that was a short reading for the day, but what a beautiful psalm it is. This psalm is a prayer for unity. It could be unity in the family, unity in the nation, unity in our churches. “When kindred live together in unity!” (NRSV)

The northern tribes now are ready to recognize David as Israel’s anointed king. You’ll notice that David doesn’t seek out the kingship;

I love how the psalms start off with praising. David never seems to tire of telling us to praise God. It is such an important message for us to remember.

More lists and names and genealogy ahead in today’s reading. But as we read these names and places I want you to ask yourself this question. “Who belongs to the people of God?”

So I wanted to focus today on Psalm 88. This has to be one of the most depressing psalms. Why would we even bother reading it?

O great, more names… again. (Ok, I’m just sayin’ what you were thinking. LOL) Actually there are some great bits of information in these chapters, wonderful little “gems”. So let’s just dive right in.

Let’s look a little closer at Psalm 73 today (you will also see similarities in 77 and 78). Our psalmist seems pretty bitter that the wicked are getting all the wealth. Ever felt that way?
