2 Kings 18:1-8; 2 Chronicles 29 – 31; Psalms 48

Wednesday

Hezekiah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. But what else did he do?

Some of the things Hezekiah did where wonderful examples of following God’s commands. He got rid of idol worshipping. He even destroyed the bronze snake Moses had made because they had turned it into an idol. (Do you remember the story of the bronze snake found in Numbers 21. It is easy to take something sacred and turn it into an idol, something we need to be very cautious about. For example, Easter. It is a very sacred day for Christians and yet, are we turning it into a holiday that does not reflect its true meaning. Do children even know that Easter is more than getting candy from an overly large rabbit? Those things can be harmless fun, but if the true message is lost, are we failing as Christians to stand up for our beliefs? Same thing about Christmas.

Hezekiah also did a few other good things. He repaired the temple and had it cleansed by the priests. HE reinstated the Passover, that very special Jewish festival remembering the exodus and the Hebrews release from Egyptian captivity.

Many good things came to the people. There was prosperity and peace in the land.

When we keep our eyes on the Lord, good things come to us. Things like joy and peace. Feeling that go beyond our ability to understand. “A peace that passes all understanding” – have you ever felt it? When you are right with God, you will know what I mean. So please, keep looking for ways to “clean out your temple” and fill it with the goodness of the Savior’s love.

Shalom
