Pastor Rick

What are you responsible for at the church?
I’m the senior pastor, so I have responsibility for vision casting, most of the preaching, and making sure things run smoothly at the church overall. It’s also my job to identify ministries and delegate volunteers to staff them. I tell everyone what to do…and then they do whatever they want. (Sigh)

What types of movies do you prefer?
Action and drama mostly. Although my wife has taught me to enjoy a good romantic movie every once in a while. I always enjoy seeing the unstable renegade beat the government thugs who are trying to silence him. Throw in some Kung Fu and several car chases and machine guns….you’ve got yourself a winner. I might need therapy….I’m not sure.

What is your favorite TV program?
Several favorites: NCIS and more recently: Heartland.  Marlene and I watched several episodes, got hooked and then binge watched 10 seasons.  I also like the superhero based programs. I never really grew up. Oh yeah…I never miss watching the channel that tells you what’s on every other channel.

If you could only have one hobby, what would it be?
Right now I would have to say downhill skiing. That’s my only hobby right now anyway.

Do you have a favorite food?
Chinese. Hands down, no question about it. One time I ate Chinese for lunch every day for a week. That was a little much.

Use 4 or 5 adjectives to describe yourself:
What’s an adjective again? Lighthearted, Committed, Easily Distracted, Talks a lot…

What would those closest to you say is the area you need to work on the most?
Finding balance between family and work .
Empathy would probably be in the top five.
Not procrastinating on jobs I don’t like to do….

What type of ministry are you most comfortable doing?
Preaching, mission trips, construction, teaching • If there was a ministry where you drove a backhoe around and dug holes I would think that was pretty fun.

Do you have a favorite bible verse?
1 John 1:9 was a favorite years ago “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. • 2 Cor 5:17 “If anyone is in Christ the new creation has come, the old has gone, the new is here” • There are too many good ones to have just one.

Tell us a little about your family…
Happily married to Marlene for 33 years. We have three grown children, two of whom are married. Both of our married children are connected to the military directly or by their spouse. Our youngest lives close by and went to school to be an electrician. • No pets….we’re not home enough to give them a good home.

How you came to minister here
I’m a second career minister, meaning that I took ministry courses while I had a regular job. I came out of the military (Full Time National Guard) and a local machine shop. Youngsville is my first pastorate. It’s been the best experience of my work life.

What sort of education do you have?

Ordained elder in the Free Methodist Church • Retired Infantry 1Sgt in the PA Army National Guard • Licensed practical nurse • Estimator and Inside Sales for a machine shop • I once had a job picking apples for small amount of pay. I’m not sure how that influenced the rest of my life…but I just thought I’d mention it.
