Psalms 50, 53, 60, 75

Wednesday

Let’s look a little closer at Psalm 75 today to see what it has for us to learn.

In our world today, we have so many people tooting their own horn. As I write this we are in the midst of a presidential election and boy is there an enormous amount of egos strutting themselves in front of the public. You’d think that both candidates think they can walk on water; with everything they are promising us they will do. I am very concerned about the United States and the direction we are headed in, and I will cast my vote as I have in each presidential election since I have been able to vote.
But politicians aren’t the only ones that boast about themselves and their greatness, we have athletes and actors, singers, musicians… it seems like everyone “lifts up their own horn” (vs. 4). We have taught our children to think very highly of themselves, at the expense of also learning how to be humble. We take selfish pride in our accomplishments. I’m not saying that a healthy sense of assurance is bad, we all have value and worth. But not because of anything we have done, but because of everything that Jesus has done for us. We have value, because God has given us value, he placed a very high price on our heads and was willing to pay it by sacrificing for us.
So in reality we have nothing to boast about, except that we should, as the Apostle Paul tells us, “boast in the Lord.” (1 Cor 1:32)
