Proverbs 7-9

Here’s a little “inside news” that only those who read the blog will ever know.   This morning when I came into work, I discovered that someone had spent the night in the Office Manager’s office.

It wasn’t a person, it was a blackbird.  He (or she) must have been in there all night, based on the amount of bird droppings I found on the desk.  Ha Ha!   I’m going to try not to tell M..   If she knew what happened on her desk I don’ t think she would want to sit there anymore!   I’m not sure how I will explain why her chair is wet…I cleaned off the droppings, but it won’t dry out before she gets here.    And then there’s the two huge bird dropping stains on her dayplanner…. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha…………   Good grief, that’s funny.

I cleaned and sanitized everything I could.   I’d better take down her curtain too.   That was “bombed” by our little friend.    Here’s the funny thing…when I came in the doors were all closed.   That bird flew in there, and someone closed him in.   I hope M.  never finds them!

Anyway, back to Proverbs:
The wise will recognize that promiscuity leads to death.  I’m not sure if it’s because of disease, or the relational decay it causes, which in turn creates rot in the whole society.  Perhaps it’s because promiscuity is really one way of satisfying our own lusts, and when we try to satiate lust, we only make it stronger.  Death is the end result of a person who never denies themselves what their carnal desires want.   It seems like it would be fun to take things that don’t belong to you, because you get to enjoy something that you didn’t work for, and don’t have to maintain.   You can sleep with the woman, and not have to nurture the relationship over the hard times.   You drink the water you didn’t carry from the well, eat the food that you didn’t pay for, or spend time growing yourself.   You drive the car you never had to maintain or pay insurance on.   Theft of property and services is a trap that many fall into.   You lose more than you gain when you take something that isn’t yours.   Most importantly, you lose God’s blessing and favor on your life.   Many leaders, (including ministers!) have been removed from office because of moral failure.  The danger is real.
I suppose the best way to combat it is to recognize that I could be weak in this area, and pray that God would give me strength and wisdom.  Insight is what I really need.   I don’t mind a good piece of cheese, but I would never try and take the piece in a mousetrap….once you have the right perspective, resisting temptation is a little easier.   Feeding our lusts is a “mousetrap”.  Beware.

I had kicked around the idea that wisdom was the third person of the Godhead, but that cannot be true, since God created wisdom.  That makes more sense anyway.   All wisdom comes from God, and God in some way put that knowledge into a created being, through which He fashioned the universe.   The whole thought is beyond me…I can’t grasp it.  Even as I sit here trying to fathom how wisdom is a person who was created and “calls out” I imagine God looking down and smiling at my feeble attempts.   I suppose it’s like a cave man looking into a cockpit.

I need to remember to pursue wisdom above all else.  I should daily ask God to provide me with wisdom and insight.   I don’t want to be identified as a mocker, but rather as one who is already wise and righteous who is constantly seeking more.

Speaking of mockers, I will also try and remember that it doesn’t do any good to argue with a mocker.  If someone doesn’t want to hear, then all the words in the world aren’t going to change them.   If they don’t believe, and aren’t interested in learning then time spent trying to improve them is wasted.   Better to spend your time with people who are eager to learn and interested in growing.

Faithfully,
