Proverbs 25-26

Saturday

Oh yippy-skippy, more proverbs. I am so glad that my husband loves Proverbs because I struggle with them.

Actually there are some very good lessons to learn in these chapters. But my husband also likes to point out ones like 25:24 and 27:15. Really – out of all the proverbs there are those two are the ones you like Brad? Well, there is truth in them and when you think about Solomon with 700 wives – it really makes a lot of sense.

Ok kidding aside. One of the most important truths we can learn is the power of the tongue. How if used incorrectly can stab a person to the heart. I think of all the bullying that goes on in our schools and how words can have such a lasting effect on people. A word of criticism can crush the spirit of a child and an adult so fast. It is why James tells us that we should “tame our tongue” (James 3).  25:16 tells us, “Like a club or a sward or a sharp arrow is the man who gives false testimony against his neighbor.” How hurtful and how devastating it can be to use your words inconsiderately. So the best thing for us is to think before we speak, speak only truth (and then use common sense when to talk and when to keep silent), don’t gossip, don’t spend time in idle talk and don’t curse. Use your words to build each other up and to be an encouragement to all; your children and family, your friends, your co-workers, your neighbors and your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Using my words to encourage you today!

Pastor Kathy
