Matthew 17

Tuesday

I just want to tell Peter to settle down, enjoy the moment.

Too many times we miss the important thing because we are running around trying to keep ourselves too busy. (Remember the story of Mary and Martha – we’ll be reading that at a later time, -Luke 10:38-42). It is similar here for Peter as he witnesses the transfiguration and the meeting with Elijah and Moses. Peter just needs to take in this moment and worship Jesus. They are getting to experience a very special moment.

I think too often we miss out on special moments because we are “too busy.”

Too busy to worship??? Really?!!? We had another amazing Sunday worship service and I would have hated to have missed it, all because I would rather be busy at a ball game or cleaning my house or even just enjoying staying in bed? (After all, isn’t Sunday my only day to sleep in?)

One of the great things about heaven will be the ongoing praise and worship of the Almighty God. It reminds me of Isaiah 6. I don’t know about you, but I need that time each week. Time to sing and praise God, to pray, to hear His Word.

Can you imagine how incredible this moment must have been (ok and a little scary.) But then God’s voice cuts through the wonder and speaks these words of declaration –

“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

Listen to Him! Let’s not get too caught up in our busy world with distractions and interruptions and neglect our time to just sit and listen to what Jesus is trying to say to us.

Shalom,

Pastor Kathy
