Joshua 9 – 11

(Thursday)
Well, the kings in the surrounding areas are starting to get a little nervous. And one group known as the Gibeonites come up with a plot to trick the Israelites and it works. But do you remember what God told the Israelites in Exodus 35:15?

“Don’t make treaties with the people near you.” Guess what? This is not going to go well for the Israelites. There will be constant problems with these people whom they made a treaty with. And why? Because just like I said yesterday, they didn’t seek God’s advice first and went into this arrangement without asking God what to do.

So they will have to live with the choice they made. As we sometimes must do. And the Gibeonites who were once a great city are now servants to the Israelites. Of course this knowledge frightens the other kings of the area, and they try to form an alliance against Joshua and the Israelites.

The battle that takes place is once again a sign of God’s miraculous powers. Joshua prays for the sun and the moon to stand still and it does. It provides a longer time needed to defeat the enemy.

There has been a lot of discussion about this phenomenon and whether is actually happened that the sun stood still. There have been recorded in ancient texts in other parts of the world something like the sun staying in the sky longer than normal. Whether or not they can prove it scientifically to me, makes no difference. There are many things that have happened that scientist can’t explain or when they have tried to explain find years later they were wrong. All I know is that the Creator of the Universe is capable of doing whatever He wants.

On a personal note, and I don’t know how this works, but I have experienced in my life… time passing either quickly or extremely slowly. Maybe you have too. I have had work that I knew I didn’t have enough time to finish and yet it seems like in the end I am able to get done what needs to be done. Or wait for water to come to a boil and a minute seems like hours or sit in a waiting room. I have no doubt that God controls time.

Blessings on the day, no matter how long or short it may be.
