Jeremiah 1-3

Monday
Have you ever wondered what kind of courage it would take to stand up for what you believe in the face of overwhelming opposition?
Martyrs for many centuries have done just that. One of the more well-known martyrs in the New Testament is Stephen. Even while looking into the face of death, he never backed down, he preached such a spirit-filled message and in the end, like Jesus before him, forgave his killers.
Well, Jeremiah is one of the Old Testament prophets who found the courage to take a stand for God. Jeremiah was called to deliver God’s message to the last 5 kings of Judah and to the false prophets, those at the temples and those at the gates.  Jeremiah agonized over the messages he must deliver and many times he felt alone and wondered if he was doing any good at all.
Jeremiah is known as the weeping prophet, and as you read this book in the days to come, you will understand why he was given that name.
His message was,

“Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you. Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the Lord your God and have no awe of me,” declares the Lord the Lord Almighty” (2:19).

Not the feel good types of messages they or anyone likes to hear.

Regardless of the price he had to pay for his obedience, Jeremiah faithfully continued to proclaim God’s word.

I only hope that I will be able to as well.
