Isaiah 44-48

Thursday
In the bible we often read of the idols that have been cast in gold or bronze or made of wood,
and Isaiah speaks against these idols that the people worship. (44:9) But we don’t made idols out of these things and worship them. Or do we? How much time do you spend in front of the TV set as opposed to reading your bible? Do you carry your cell phone with you wherever you go and talk on it more that you talk (pray) to God? What about good luck charms? Have any of them? Has the neighborhood bar become your “church”? You see the devil is very good at making simple everyday things become “gods” for us, sanctuaries (places to worship).

Distractions, always it comes down to distractions. We can’t focus on anything for more than a few seconds, our minds are always having to be filled with entertainment. Did you know that when you watch TV, the scene or picture changes every 3 seconds? Watch it sometime and see. Yet if you watched the news, many people, 5 minutes after it is over, couldn’t tell you what was on it in any great detail. We are bombarded by too many outside influences that over time, desensitize us to the real issues at hand, to what is right and what is wrong. Do you think it is alright to live with someone before you marry them? Is it ok to gamble? To abort a baby? If I am not hurting anyone else, it’s alright to do it. Everyone is entitled to receive the same award, whether they worked for it or not. (Tell that to the Olympians that are going to Rio – everyone gets a gold medal.) Just because someone says something with authority or they say it enough times, does not make it true.

The only truth is found in the Word of God. Maybe if our country spent more time reading what the bible says, and following its teachings, we wouldn’t be in the mess we are today.

I think like the Israelites, that our time of judgment (of exile) is drawing close, but I also believe that God is in control and He will do only what needs to be done in order for us to be saved.

“Turn to me and be saved all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none but me.” (45:22).

Shalom
