Ezekiel 4-8

Monday

I have to feel for Ezekiel, God calls him to do something that is so repulsive to him that he cannot bring himself to do.

Being raised as a priest, Ezekiel was trained not to touch anything unclean. To cook food over human dung was so abhorrent to Ezekiel that he protests to God and ask that he not have to do it, God relents somewhat and tells him to use cow dung.

Wow, Ezekiel must have felt like his world was falling apart around him. God has called him to do so many detestable or humiliating things, like shaving his head, cooking over human excrement, relaying unpopular messages. He is discovering that God is not like what he had been taught. Yet in the center of this, I feel that Ezekiel has been given such a great gift, to be honored by God that He would be given such a responsibility, to be able to witness the omnipotence of God, first hand.

There are times in our lives when we are called to do things that are outside our comfort zone. But I have found that if I let God go before me, it never seems as bad as my mind has made it seem. And whenever I feel overwhelmed by the work or the task ahead of me, I lift up my eyes to Him and He has always helped me through or given me peace about what takes place.

Shalom
