Ezekiel 16-17

Thursday
Wow, God is letting the Israelites have it.

Throughout scripture God’s chosen people have been depicted as His bride. This is carried over into the New Testament, too. But what God is seeing is an unfaithful wife that has sold herself into prostitution. God had cared for His people from infancy and yet they ran after foreign gods, sacrificing their children and worshiping idols. To say that God is filled with fury would be understating His anger. I don’t know about you, but I don’t ever want to have to face or stand before God when He is that angry. Yet I wonder how close we are getting to being the same “adulterous wife” as the Israelites?
He said they sacrifice their children to idols and we are appalled by such a thought, yet unborn babies are sacrificed every day to the idols of convenience and selfishness. We also, turn our attention to the gods of modern technology that usurp our time with God. We say we are so busy that we don’t have time to pray, or read our bibles. We choose sporting events over church, we even put our jobs, our families, (even though these are good things, they are only if they are in alignment with God’s laws, and when they are we will be able to enjoy them even more) we allow our social activities, and vacations to replace our time with you. I feel so ashamed that I have been swept up in such sinful behavior, and have been that unfaithful wife.

Lord, I pray that Christians will open their eyes to the way we have prostituted ourselves before you. Forgive us, forgive me, when we slip into bad habits, help us to “turn our eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face”. What is comforting to know Lord, is that all you want for us is to repent and return to you and you will forgive us. Why You are so loving is beyond what I am capable of understanding, but I will rejoice in your mercy, grace and love.

Faithfully yours,

Pastor Kathy
