Romans 10

Read: Romans 10

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”  (vs 9)

Talk about a zealous person. When Paul talks about having zeal for God, without knowledge; I think Paul might himself be a good description of this before his conversion. Think about how zealous he was for God, but for all the wrong reasons. He didn’t know the whole story. He didn’t know that Jesus was the fulfillment of the promise. That Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah.

Too many religions try to join all religions together and that is just not right. If you are worshipping a god who is not Father, Son and Holy Spirit… if you fail to include Jesus in your beliefs, then you are not worshipping the One True God. There is no blurring of the lines here. No blending of beliefs. Jesus is the only way you can be saved. Jesus is the completion of the Law.  Belief in Him is based on being made right by faith, we don’t have to “work” to get Jesus. He has been offered to us freely and of His own will, we just need to accept Him. And we accept Him by confessing and believing in the person and work of Jesus.

Isaiah 40:21 says, “Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded?” How will  others know what we know if we don’t share.  How many people have you shared the gospel message with? For a person to believe and accept Christ, they need to first hear the message and how is that possible? Only through the testimony of others…you and me.
I love this passage of scripture, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’”

So how seriously have we taken on this role as evangelist? Who are we telling this “good news” to? When you think about the seriousness of taking this life-changing message, a message that can literally save someone’s life, how can we not shout it out?

I have been given this amazing responsibility of preaching and teaching God’s Word and I consider it a privilege to do so.  I think about the many people over my lifetime who shared the “good news” with me. My parents, my Sunday School teacher, Mrs Ridgeway. The many pastors that I’ve listened to and learned from. The youth group that came to our church and shared the message through music, “God’s Matches.”

We are all in this together, and it is every Christian’s duty to witness whenever possible. It is my hope and prayer that we will all experience the urgency to witness.

Grace and Peace
